Homework should provide students with the opportunity to apply information they have learned, complete unfinished class assignments, and develop independence. Homework assignments include: Practice exercises to follow classroom instruction; Preview assignment to prepare for subsequent lessons; Extension assignments to transfer new skills or concepts to new situations; and, Creative activities to integrate many skills toward the production of a response or product. Actual time to complete assignments will vary with each student's study habits, academic skills, and extracurricular activities. Generally, students in grade five will average approximately 50 minutes per night. If your child is spending an inordinate amount of time doing homework, you should contact your child's teacher(s). Assignment Book Students are expected to write in their planners daily. Assignments are posted on the front board as well as in the "Homework" section of this site. Please initial your son/daughter's agenda each night. I will check for your signature and any messages every morning. Take Home Folder Every student will have a designated Take Home folder. On Monday, I will send a Student Behavior Sheet, corrected work, and any notes. Grades Grades will be posted on a weekly basis. After First Quarter, conferences will be held to discuss the learning progress of your son or daughter. If you are at all concerned about how your child is doing in class, you may send an e-mail or request to schedule a conference. Snack Students are allowed a healthy snack during 3rd Period. Popular items brought to class are: pieces of fruit, granola bars, veggie sticks, string cheese and yogurt. A water bottle is encouraged to have in class. Birthday Treats A birthday is a very special occasion and we enjoy celebrating it in the classroom. Treats should be snack size and easy to distribute. Suggestions are: cupcakes, cookies, brownies, fruit snacks, popsicles, doughnut holes, Rice Krispy treats, or fruit cups. This year, our classroom count is 20. *Please send peanut-free snacks to protect students with allergies. |
